Accountable

Courage to Share

This is my before picture. My daughter tells me I need to love myself. I do love myself. I just don’t love my physical reflection in the mirror. I did not want to share this picture, but I have to. Here is where the journey begins. Each day I will put one foot in front of the other to a better physical me.

Why is the before picture so important? It marks the origin. It’s my Genesis. Success in weight management takes courage to:

  1. Commit to an eating style that includes portion control.
  2. Educates your psyche on good eating habits that result in a well nourished body.
  3. Envision your end physique that will be pleasing to you.
  4. Think about what you put into your mouth before you eat it and why.
  5. Track your progress each day.

Victory in weight management requires accountability. Account means to keep a detailed record. The very thing we do not want to do is what we should do. I don’t like keeping track of all my failures. It’s great when the report is good. But when the report says you missed the mark, it’s not so exciting. Pretty soon you stop tracking because of the shame of defeat. To avoid this negative feeling would be to overcome the bad habit by replacing it with good eating habits.

So what does it take to be accountable to your body? It takes self control and goal setting. Set daily goals for foods and eating. Record or journal the outcome each day. Commit to mindful eating. I practice SHE-FUN during mealtimes. SHE-FUN is a way of talking to my-Self who is my inner being. SHE-FUN reviews with my soul my own rules for eating. SHE-FUN is great for maintaining your ideal weight. However, we need more structure for weight-loss. YES, we need rules for eating.

Without rules, we suffer from a type of lawlessness within ourselves. When we do not reference a food philosophy we’re subconsciously saying, “I prefer to eat when I want, any and everything my heart desires–without regard to the consequences.” This is unhealthy and unwise; it lacks self control.

Being accountable to myself has been the missing ingredient to controlling my weight. My goal is to lose 100 pounds. I’m following my plan. If I want authenticity and credibility, I must put into practice these principles. I need to experience this diet-style working in my own life as evidenced by lost weight.

That’s why this time I’m trying Jesus Christ. With Christ everything is YES and AMEN! By renewing my mind, I want to daily understand the consequence of my food choices. I want to enjoy divine health by feeding my spirit first and obeying the will of God for eating.

So what say me? I say let’s hit the bullseye everyday! This electronic journal is my bid for accountability.  Accountability is more fun when shared. Join me on my journey to health and wellness. Support groups with like-minded people can help keep us on target with our food goals.

Check in and participate daily at Good Living@the-Throne-of-Grace. Before each meal set a goal for that eating session and stand on scripture. Then journal your success at keeping the goal.

Faithfulness to keeping your goals will in time change the shape of your body and your inner life.
