The Mercy Crown

When I think of Torah, I am humbled to know that the LORD crowned His law with mercy. Out in the wilderness, after God miraculously saved the Children of Israel from slavery in Egypt, the LORD set up a worship tent in the desert. He depicted mercy as pure gold–one of the rarest and most precious metals on earth. Clearly God extols mercy with great value and worth.

The tabernacle in the wilderness, was the meeting place between God and Moses. It was the place where Moses and God talked as friends.

So the LORD spoke to Moses face-to-face, as a man speaks to his friend. ~Exodus 33:11

The LORD poured His heart out to Moses, and Moses listened carefully. He instructed Moses to build an ark to hold the word of His testimony, which we know as the law or the Torah.

Moses was to make the ark out of shittim wood, then place the two tables inside. Shittim wood is nearly indestructible. And if you know the story, the testimony was the ten commandments. These were written by the finger of God himself !

Then God told Moses to cover the ark with a crown crafted from pure gold. This was not just any crown. It was a special crown called the Mercy Seat.

And you shall overlay it with pure gold inside and out, and shall make upon it a crown of gold all around. ~Exodus 25:11

And on its top were fashioned two cherubim made of pure gold. Psalm 85:10-11 tells us that these cherubim are known by God as Mercy and Truth.

Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed.Truth shall spring out of the earth, And righteousness shall look down from heaven. ~Psalm 85:10-11

The Mercy Seat in the Old Testament tabernacle represents Jesus Christ of the New Testament.

Jesus showed mercy to all who believed in Him. Before being healed the people cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” (Matthew 9:27)

God hid His Law in the Ark of the Testimony because the good LORD never intended that man should keep the law. Without God’s help, it’s impossible for humans to keep all of Torah.

The Divine plan from the beginning of creation was that God, Himself would come to earth and fulfill the law. Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, would come down from heaven as a lowly human, born the son of woman. His purpose– to keep every law in the Torah, as prophesied by the prophets. That’s why the LORD told Moses to cover the law with mercy. Immanuel wearing his veil of flesh had not come.

Think on that. The Almighty God of the Universe planned your salvation from the foundation of creation. Jesus Christ is now the risen LORD seated on heaven’s mercy seat. Salvation is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Yeshua wants to meet with you just as He met with Moses at the tabernacle in wilderness.

The LORD desires to dwell with you in your holy place. It’s that spiritual space where God in heaven meets and speaks to the souls of His children on earth. Location: in the tabernacle of your heart. Come. Talk with Him.

Meet God Face-2-Face,

@ the Throne of Grace.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. ~Hebrews 4:16
