Whenever you eat anything, eat with an appreciation of the sacredness of food. We have totally lost awareness that fruits have been grown on trees, ripened by the sun, and picked carefully, transported to our stores for us to purchase etc. So be mindful of the journey the food you are eating has taken in order to get to your mouth.
Gratitude.
Try and sit and make a ritual of your eating, as if it is a holy communion. Because it is in a way. It is food that was given for you to nourish your body and soul and give you energy and nutrition for life!! Have the same respectful attitude to water too. It is sacred. Pray over all food and water before consuming. Eat slowly, savouring the flavours and textures of the food you are eating. Don’t multi task when eating.
Appreciation of the sacredness of food is really important. When I was in Africa there were times when I did not know how the next meal was going to be prepared because there was nothing left, to make it with. From scarcity you develop a grateful heart for what you have. You also develop an acute awareness of sharing what there is and ensuring that all your family members get their fair share of the food that is available.
This is lost in our instant gratification society, but it is an important concept to take on board. It’s also a good way to ensure that the people for which you prepare food get the nourishment they require for their bodies. It is important to actually feel hunger so you can hear your body tell you when it is satisfied.
Hope this helps….
