  Who Are They Protecting?

   

  

  Read the article by Lanre Baker of “The Guardian” newspaper.

  The police are supposed to protect law and order. Yet, songs like Rick James’ “Mr. Policeman” represent the police as a plague and menace in the black American neighborhoods.

   

  What is the role of the police? As citizens, we pay taxes to keep and maintain them.

  Who and what are they really protecting?
